I am a sociocultural anthropologist working at the intersection of medical anthropology, psychological anthropology, and the anthropology of care. My doctoral research examines counseling training in urban India, asking how therapeutic expertise and moral subjectivity are cultivated in pedagogical settings. More broadly, my work contributes to debates on global mental health, subject formation, gendered care, and epistemologies of healing.
I was trained in sociology in India. India, a former colony, developed its national identity in the discipline without the self-other binary that distinguishes sociology and anthropology in Euro-American contexts. Thus, social anthropology in India is typically practiced within sociology departments. This epistemic orientation deeply informs my practice of anthropology and makes me attentive to how anthropology can be found outside traditional anthropology departments - for instance, in art and fiction.
Inspired by the ethos of accountability to the public sphere in Norwegian academia, I am passionate about disseminating academic research through public-facing formats. Translating social science research for the public is no longer an option in the contemporary world.
